Barry served 32 years with the Derbyshire Constabulary holding various portfolios from community safety and cohesion to counter terrorism.

He has experience of dealing with and commanding critical incidents as an established  International Hostage Negotiator/ coordinator.  He is passionate about promoting the communities he works with especially the encouragement and mentoring of young people helping them to achieve their full potential. 

After retirement from Derbyshire he came to the Falkland Islands as a Constable in January 2019 being promoted later that year to Inspector where he served until 2021 when he moved to being Head of Training and Development with the Royal Saint Helena Police Service and after a short time as Inspector on Ascension he returned to the Falkland Islands in February 2023.
